Sad day for this chestnut tree
in the gardens at the mill. A large bough at the north side of the tree snapped off recently, so Jacqui asked me to record this momentous event in the tree’s life when I came back to cover some additions to the Riverside apartment. Three yukka plants are doing brilliantly in the garden. I’ve never seen a yukka in flower, let alone one outdoors in a Suffolk garden in flower.
The chestnut tree is one of my favourite sights in the gardens at the mill. It’s a beautiful shape, and judging by its size it’s seen a lot of years of change. Standing beside the fallen bough I felt like I was standing with something slow and big, more like an elephant. I’m not sure if that makes any sense at all, but I got a feeling for its slow, gentle growth. I’m not sure what will become of the tree – it may already have been infected, watch this space for updates!
The Riverside has been a work in progress, and now with final pieces in place I returned to document them. Luckily little Colin was around and happy to model the view from the armchair and the Riverside’s own dog box complete with blanket and treats! You guys think of everything. Enjoy these:
